The spot that they are drilling on is just a gigantic slab of dirty ice with no vegetation and barely any animal population. For crying out loud its not like they are drilling in the middle of a forest.

I think they should drill for oil up McCain's ass!
By: gcsecsi. on 29 Jun 08, 18:34:03
We need to drill in ANWR and any other area with oil. If refineries are needed, they should be built as well. Free markets will work on alternate fuels, not the government, its not the governments job! Alternate fuels would be highly profitable, free markets are all over it. The liberals will crush our free markets, destroy an ill economy and bring Americans to their knees with their ignorant ideology. Then they can feel in control, their Jimmy Carter walk to work mentality would destroy us.

"With respect to the world oil price impact, projected ANWR oil production constitutes between 0.4 and 1.2 percent of total world oil consumption in 2030, based on the low and high resource cases, respectively.1 Consequently, ANWR oil production is not projected to have a large impact on world oil prices." tinyurl 45oo56

Obama and McCain are pretty much bed buddies on this issue as they are on many issues. For common sense policies please check out Libertarian candidate Bob Barr. He may not win but a vote for Barr will tell the establishment, left and right, we're not going to take it any more.

We invaded a country full of oil and spend billions securing it! There is no oil shortage. Oil companies weren't smart enough to realize current demand so they didn't build enough refineries. Can we be so gullible? If they drill on our reserves and off our shores we need a guarantee that we will pay under $1 a gallon at the pumps or it shouldn't be allowed. Our land our oil our terms don't let government give up what belongs to us. We're getting manipulated in giving up something for nothing!

Evil Republican McCain once again calls for domestic drilling. And once again the democrats are saying the same thing they did in 1996 when president Clinton vetoed drilling in ANWR. "Well... even if we made the decision to start drilling, it would take 10 years to realize any benefit.
By: claudius1964. on 19 Jun 08, 02:48:06
ok... so who's hording oil in this country... come on... spill the beans.
By: DimeLivesInUs. on 13 Jun 08, 00:47:42
Not very many people go to ANWR, what's the point in keeping it beautiful for animals and super rich people?
By: DimeLivesInUs. on 13 Jun 08, 00:46:24
5 years is enough to research cleaner, efficient, and abundant fuels. Actually, if we used ANWR oil on a 4.3Billion barrel estimate to replace all oil we get from Saudi Arabia, it would last us 8.9 years.
By: SaMeJ28. on 11 Jun 08, 18:22:02
Hmm.. I don't understand why you're fighting to open ANWR... You said yourself that there's 36 Billion barrels there... but the US oil consumption is 20 million/per day. At that rate, those reserves would be deplete in only 5 years. ...Then what?

It may not be a large area but it is a micro climate of biodiversity. Very important to protect. Most of Alaska is mountains where no to little life can life. ANWR is a thriving ecosystem that future generations should have the right to knowing something that wild is still in tact.
By: Joelomite. on 08 Jun 08, 04:31:03
I'm voting McCain over Obama, but hearing this really frustrates me. McCain and others don't realize that the drillig space in ANWR takes up only 2000 acres, and Alaska is millions of acres. It's just a blip on the radar. We have a HUGE abundance of untapped oil in places like: the Dakotas, coast of California, Gulf of Mexico, off the Florida Keys, Virgina to name a few. China's allowed to drill here, but it's illegal for us to drill in our own backyard??? It's time to change the rules.
By: Dblitzen. on 07 Jun 08, 14:36:46
Why didn't they do this 10 years ago?????

Mccain is insane
By: nigglefritz. on 28 May 08, 22:13:06
Last week the Department of Energy released its report on drilling in ANWR. It says it would take 10 years to bring the oil online, AND it would reduce the price of crude by $0.75 per barrel. With a barrel selling for $133 today, that isn't worth it. Not even close. We need alternatives to petroleum based energy. Also, just same NO to McW in 2008! We don't want more of Bush's failed policies!
