Nice dancing, terrible music. Piano is not Flamenco.

Simply stunning! Does anybody know the name of the music they danced to? (If it's Gades I will be very embarrassed!! Wasn't sure if that was the name of the dance or the song?!!)

I don't have any scientific proof that it is beyond all shadow of a doubt derived from Kathak dance but neither do the people who assure us that it is a dance derived from Arab dances which it does not even resemble. Indians arrived in Spain in two waves, the original people from whom Indo-Europeans are derived & a later migration fleeing Muslim incursions in their own land. (The Caliphate of the Umayyads in Spain was unlike any other in their tolerance of other people.)

@mmedefarge yeah, how do you know?
By: mmedefarge. on 09 Dec 09, 04:45:09
It closely resembles Kathak dance. Intricate arm & hand movements, positions of the torso & head but especially in the footwork because the dance also serves as a percussion. There is very little movement of the pelvis & virtually no isolated pelvic movements which are the hallmarks of Arab dance. Arab dance also features very little footwork which is one of the main features of both Kathak & Flamenco. Indians settled in Spain as well & the court of the Caliph also imported Indian dancers.

how do u know?
By: mmedefarge. on 14 Nov 09, 00:45:24
Close. It's derived from Indian dance. It's more obvious in more traditional choreography than in this; you can see the connection.
